About

Our Hindu Hero:

Srila Prabhupad

Prabhupada was known as Abhay Charan before he took on the name Prabhupada. He was told about Krishna by his spiritual master, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, in 1922 when he first met him. He was requested by his guru to spread Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's message in the West because he had recieved an European education. Prabhupada was around the age of 69 when he first came to America on the shipJaladuta. Over the course of his trip to America, he survived 2 heart attacks and he landed in New York in 1965, where he opened the first temple, starting the ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Conciousness) movement. In 10 years, he managed to make 108 temples all  over America..

ABOUT US

The four of us, Janki, Tulsi, Simren, and Mahek, are passionate about our culture and religion and are eager to help our youth appreciate our culture. Amongst the four of us, Simren is in charge of the balvihar class, where she tells the kids Krishna stories and does activities. Janki and Tulsi are in charge of performing arts, organizing the students for upcoming plays and dances. As for myself, I am in charge of communications (ie. temple board, website, etc.) and outreach with the Interfaith Youth Council of Orange County. I am always looking to recruit Hindu reps for IYCOC. Along the way, our Mentor, our balvihar teacher, Rupal, has helped us make this happen. We are so happy to be involved and giving back to our community, and we hope that youth and parents interested in joining their youth, enroll in our program.
